Light and safety .. A participatory initiative between 320 families in Sweida

Darkness is a source of fear for many, particularly children, as walking in dark streets is often connected with feelings of insecurity, thus comes the need for modern light sources in the main streets.

“Light and Safety” is the name of the community initiative launched by the Syrian Arab Red Crescent volunteers in Dama village in rural Sweida, that was implemented in partnership with the local community to ensure the safety of children and elderly, as well as making the movement of people easier during power outages.

The volunteers contributed to strengthening protective factors for children, and reducing the caregivers’ anxiety about their families, by installing lights on seven strategic points in the main and secondary roads of the village.
In addition, they connected the houses with electrical projectors and installed solar panels, to provide lighting for 320 families.

The initiative comes with the support of the Canadian Red Cross, to enhance the safety of people in the village, and develop cooperation, team work, and planning skills of the participants as well.
