A candidate to the position of President of the Syrian Arab Republic must meet the following conditions:
1- He must be over forty years of age, at the beginning of the year in which the election takes place.
2- He must have Syrian Arab nationality by birth from parents who possess Syrian Arab nationality by birth.
3- He must be of civil and political rights and have not been convicted of a heinous crime, even if he has been reinstated.
4- He should not be married to a non-Syrian.
5- He must have resided in the Syrian Arab Republic for a period of not less than ten continuous years of permanent residence upon submitting the candidacy application.
6- He shall not hold any nationality other than the nationality of the Syrian Arab Republic.
7. He shall not be deprived of exercising the right to vote.
